Sketch to Concept Art Render

The Sketch to Concept Art Render workflow converts a sketch into a fully rendered concept art piece with rich colors, lighting, and painterly details.

This speeds up the concept development process by removing the manual step of painting over a sketch, allowing artists to explore multiple variations quickly.

How To Use

  1. Upload Your Sketch – Drag and drop or select a sketch or line art drawing to serve as the base for your concept render. Your sketch may include color but that color information will not be incorporated into the final render.
  2. Enter a Prompt – Describe what you want the final image to include.
  3. Refine the Style – Optionally, you can specify artistic styles. We’ve included a few starter prompts that generally result in high quality images.
  4. Adjust Sketch Fidelity – Enter a number between 1 and 100 to control how closely the final output follows the original sketch (1 = loose interpretation, 100 = exact match).
  5. Generate Your Render – Click Invoke, which will process your sketch and prompt into a fully rendered concept art piece. The image(s) will be saved to the folder that you have open in the gallery.

How It Works

  1. Upload & Process the Sketch: Your uploaded sketch or line art is resized to the optimal aspect ratio and processed using a ControlNet (Canny) model to detect key edges and structural elements.
  2. Apply the AI Model: The SDXL-based model (e.g., JuggernautXL) is selected to generate a refined concept from the sketch.
  3. Integrate Prompt Guidance: The positive prompt defines the subject and style elements (e.g., “spaceships, brushed metal, chrome”)
  4. Adjust Fidelity to the Sketch: The Sketch Strength setting determines how strictly the model follows the original drawing.
  5. Generate & Denoise the Image: The AI generates an initial render based on the structured input. A controlled denoising process refines the details, balancing texture, contrast, and artistic interpretation.
  6. Finalize & Save the Concept Art: The final rendered image is saved to your board, where you can iterate further if needed.
